"'debbie tucker green is one of the most assured and extraordinary new voices we've heard in a long while...' Independent on born bad 'There is a sly, controlled power in the writing... and now I cannot get it out of my head' Guardian on dirty butterfly"

This title features the RSC premiere for a play about female sex tourism from one of our most prominent black playwrights. In "Trade", Debbie Tucker Green puts an intriguing spin on the unease. We all feel as tourists in a country poorer than our own. She focuses on three black women on a Caribbean island. One is a hip young thing from London with a loud mouth and plenty of attitude. One is an older professional woman, seemingly sensitive to her surroundings. The third is a resident native. In a dynamic collage of voices, whose pin-sharp accuracy is frequently hilarious, these three women seek to justify their various conflictive positions: the islander can be just as exploitative as the tourists, whose sense of their own superiority can just as easily be undermined...First seen in a rehearsed reading at the Soho Theatre, London, "Trade" gets its fully-staged premiere at the RSC in October 2005 during their New Work Festival at the Swan Theatre, Stratford.
