Ordinarily Detective Lane has a knack for discovering the whereabouts of missing persons. In the case of ex-Mayor Bob Swatsky, however, Lane is facing more than the usual obstacles. Swatsky's in-laws, finding themselves under siege by the police and the media, are fighting to hold on to and protect Ernie, who is afraid that his Uncle Bob will return to act on his threats. Ernie's grandmother knows more than she is telling and his grandfather has a love doll that knows more about the case than Lane does. Beth, Ernie's mother, has to hold the family together, before the police or two of Swatsky's buddies take away her son. While Lane is dealing with prejudice within the police force and learning to work with a new partner, his time is running out. He needs to find out what happened to Mr. Swatsky and 13 million dollars, before someone else goes missing... permanently.
