After his years in America, Mark returns to New Zealand. There he finds a son he cannot understand and the beginning of a new romance. Meanwhile, back in England, Ted and Tina's children are growing up, doomed to be drawn into the Great War, where Frank will be scarred forever by one terrible day in the trenches.
